Lorde started her career as a singer after she and her friend Louis McDonald won the Belmont. After that, she made her appearance on Jim Mora’s Afternoons show on Radio New Zealand along with McDonald. They have performed the covers of popular songs Mama Do and Use Somebody.

Along with this, she was also a part of her school band named Extreme that placed third in North Sore Battle of the Bands.

In the year 2011, she performed her original songs for the first time at the Victoria Theatre. In the same year, she paired with popular singer and songwriter Joel Little and recorded an extended play titled The Love with five singles at Golden Age Studios in Auckland.

The extended play was commercially released in the year 2013 by Universal Music Group. In the same year, she released her debut album titled Pure Heroine which was commercially successful and peaked at several charts across different countries like New Zealand, Australia, and United States.
